Certifications

To assist ongoing programs, American Mensa offers volunteers the opportunity to become certified in several areas that require additional approvals.

Food Safety

To ensure the health and well-being of members attending gatherings around the country, American Mensa requires that at least one member of the Hospitality Committee for each AG, RG, LDW and Colloquium complete a food safety course prior to the event. The application for each event must include a copy of a certificate establishing that at least one member of the Hospitality Committee has completed a federal, state, county or Mensa food safety course.  We've made it easy for you to certify.

Gifted Children Coordinators

American Mensa can provide a safe, supportive and stimulating environment for Young Mensans and relatives of adult members and their minor guests. Creative activities for children begin with the interest shown by Local Groups and are usually led by Gifted Children’s Coordinators.

Proctoring

Proctors are often the first members with whom prospects have contact and, therefore, may influence prospects’ perceptions of Mensa. Additionally, Proctors are charged with ensuring that Mensa’s supervised tests are administered fairly and accurately, thus maintaining the integrity of the membership selection process. Due to state requirements regarding the practice of psychology, all Mensa Proctors are certified to work under the license of Mensa’s supervisory psychologist (unless they themselves are licensed psychologists).

SIGHT Coordinators

SIGHT Coordinators serve traveling Mensans worldwide by connecting them with local Mensans to provide information, guidance and hospitality. Your fellow local members can suggest local hot spots, share travel tips, provide Local Group activity information, or find accommodations. The SIGHT Coordinator’s primary function is to find members to volunteer as hosts and to keep track of the hosts’ requirements for guests. The only requirement to be a Coordinator is friendliness, information and a desire to help others. If you enjoy meeting new and interesting people, learn how SIGHT can benefit you.
