Group Officers
In the spring of 1962, American Mensa began to create the organizational structure that it would need to accommodate its rapidly growing membership. Although there were no elections, members accepted responsibilities for a number of positions, including Activities Director, Psychological Advisor, Public Relations Officer, Treasurer and Local Groups Secretary. While most of the activity was limited to the New York City area, the officers were aware of that their efforts would ultimately benefit the membership throughout the country.
As it is today, members at the local, regional and national levels know that, ultimately, their value to American Mensa lies within the time and effort they give to the organization as volunteers. Whether they organize "Fold, Spindle and Mutilate" newsletter parties or they assist parents with needed gifted children resources, these member volunteers are often referred to as the "lifeblood of American Mensa."
